READ THE SAMPLE
The relatively new field of 3D printing offers amazing opportunities in rapid prototyping, but strong engineering design cannot be neglected. Snap-fit components are a much-loved and extremely useful feature but when incorrectly designed are brittle and break easily.
This article's aim was to distill the extensive literature around snap-fit components made from traditional materials and manufacturing methods and create an short, easy to reference guide. The formulae and further reading are available for more in depth study should the reader require, but the graphs and charts mean initial dimensions can be estimated immediately.
While the presentation and charts are of my own making, the quality of the information is entirely down to the extensive sources and design manuals available from BASF and Bayer Material Science (now Covestro).
